How to handle a reactive dog on a walk

If you Have a Reactive Boston Terrier! …PLEASE READ…

When out on walks find a quiet spot and just stand still in one spot and relax your shoulders and your arms. Stand level with your dogs head, not in front of your dog and not behind just like the silhouette and a loose lead.

DON’T SPEAK TO YOUR DOG.

No commands or cues like sit, stay, wait etc.

Just stand still, calm and relaxed.

Watch your dog and watch them become calm and relaxed with you.

Your dog may look up at you at some point and this is when you speak, just give soft, gentle praise.

If your dog chooses to sit, stand or lay down it doesn’t matter.

You are teaching your dog how to be calm and relaxed and that its OK to just stand and be quiet and calm.

Do this every day as part of the routine for just a few minutes (three) and you will see the benefits for you and your dog.

Don’t worry if you have a dog that you think can’t sit calm for one second , be patient, calm yourself and teach.

Once you have practiced and you and your dog are calmer, normally a couple of weeks, then you can do the same routine in more challenging situations where there are more dogs and people.

I hope this Routine is helpful to you guys! Give it a try!
