Fifteen years ago, my husband and I fell in love with our first Boston Terrier, Tank. When Tank left our lives after a short battle with kidney disease we were devastated and sure that no other dog could fill his paws. After about eight months, we came to realize that while our Tank could not be replaced, we had too much love in our hearts to remain Boston-less and our search led us to the MABTR adoption page.
Two Toe Joe (yes, he really is missing a few toes) was adopted from MABTR in 2016 at the age of one and there hasn’t been a dull moment since. What he lacks in toes he more than makes up for in spirit, chasing squirrels that he will never be fast enough to catch, prancing through the neighborhood on our afternoon walks like he’s king of the hill, and flipping his food bowl upside down when he thinks it’s time for a snack. Joe is a wonderful companion who loves to go for a ride and is the star of the weekly grocery drive-up, with most of the grocers knowing him by name! Joe loves his ‘flappies’, long, stuffing less toys he holds in his mouth and whips back and forth while he races through the house and yard. When Joe is all tuckered out, we can find him sunk deep into the backs of the couch cushions, splayed out in our bed or, as it gets cooler, camped out near the floor vents soaking up all that heat. Joe is also the world’s best administrative assistant when we work from home, even if he does spend most of his shift snoring. In addition to being an incredible friend to us, Joe is very good natured and has never met a stranger when it comes to other dogs. From Weimaraners to Pomeranians to other Bostons, rest assured they have a friend in Joe.
Due to Joe’s amiable personality and our love for Boston Terriers, we were drawn to begin the most rewarding experience of our lives that in 2020 we started fostering for MABTR in Springfield, MO. We can think of no better way to honor our love for Tank and Joe than by opening our home to help these special dogs find their forever families. We are eternally grateful to MABTR for not only connecting us with our beloved Two Toe Joe, but for allowing us to be part of the adoption journey for so many incredible Boston Terriers.
