MABTR Family - Alexis in KS

Jennifer Misfeldt, MABTR

"If you are thinking about volunteering, please do it! We have zero regrets!"

We have been volunteers for MABTR for 10 years. My two children and I started fostering as a way to cope during a painful divorce. The foster dogs were the best therapy we could have ever wished for!

We have fostered 48 Bostons over 10 years. We also help with freedom rides and transports.

We have had our Boston, Baxter for 12 years. He gives us so much love and happiness that we wanted to give back to the breed. We now have Fern (a puppy mill survivor) who made us a "foster fail"). Many of us belong to this club. Our love doubled when she came to live with us.

I'd say the only challenge to fostering is to not get frustrated or angry with animal abusers and breeders who dump their dogs. These little creatures rely on humans to give them love and compassion. Some of the trauma these little ones go through would break your heart.

We try to keep in touch with as many previous fosters and their new families as possible, we insist on open adoptions. Getting updates and pictures on how one of our fosters are living their new happy lives keeps us motivated to take in the next foster. If you are a MABTR adopter join the MABTR Alumni FB page.

Our favorite part about volunteering for MABTR is seeing the joy that these dogs bring to their new families. We have witnessed so much healing (humans and dogs) adoption can bring into lives. Also watching my kids group up learning to volunteer and give back. They were very young when we started and now even drive and transport on their own!

We have met so many incredible people through fostering with MABTR and have forged lifelong friendships.
